Sicilian products meet success at Expo

Cannoli and prickly pears among bestsellers

26 October, 20:30
(ANSA) - PALERMO. OCTOBER 26 - Cannoli, arancini, almonds, grapes, prickly pear sold like hot cakes during the Sicily Coldiretti week at Expo. Hundreds stood in line from the opening of the yellow stands to taste the ricotta cannoli and whiff the fragrance of the wafers but also for hot, stuffed arancini rice balls. British, German, American, Chinese and Japanese have helped make special and unique these seven days in which Coldiretti offered tons of fruit, pastries and breads.

It was a success also for the prickly pears, which were appreciated by those who had never tasted them before. An innovation that, thanks to word of mouth among the hundreds of thousands of visitors, led to the success of the Sicilian-based breakfast which also included Canicattì grapes, honey and preserves.

The other great success were the cheeses: from the Ragusano to the piacentinu and pecorino. But the king of Sicilian week was cannoli with ricotta. An undisputed sovereign that delighted the palate of thousands of people who chose to imprint Sicily on the memory of their visit to Expo.

The chairman and the director of Coldiretti, Alessandro Chiarelli and Prisco Lucio Sorbo, said, "We had yet another demonstration of how Sicilian production is really the strength of the regional economy. Government stability is crucial now more than ever: it's the only thing that can ensure development objectives and growth."
