Innovation: regional integration policies from Trieste

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - The goal of the Macro-Regional Innovation Week is to open a path to integration of innovation policies within the Adriatic-Ionian, Alpine and Danubian macro-regions, which has never been mplemented so far. The week dedicated to workshops and seminars opened today in Trieste will be ending on September 30 in Area Science Park. The participants are 250 and there are 60 international speakers. Among the participants, 80 are young innovation policy experts, coming from the Western Balkans. ''We rely on new generations and on all the stakeholders involved in the three macro-regions to set up a coordinated common policy, in order to make a competitive innovation breakthrough of these territories'' said opening the round table Giovanni De Santi, Director of the Directorate Competences, Joint Research Centre J(JRC) of the European Commission. ''Today - he added - there are projects, funding and infrastructure, but we need a coordinated approach to be taken up by policy makers, thanks to the boost coming straight from the territories''. This concept was taken up by the President of the Area Science Park Sergio Paoletti, who supported the idea of coordinating the policies of the Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3) at the macro regional level. The President of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia Debora Serracchiani pointed out that Europe Union has ranked the Friuli Venezia Giulia as ''strong innovator'' , due to the strong presence of innovative manufacturing enterprises, research centres and an international science park employing a large number of researchers from all over the world. The Macro-Regional Innovation Week is organized by JRC and Area Science Park, in collaboration with the Region, the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Elettra Synchrotron Trieste, the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) and the ' World intellectual property organization' (WIPO).
