29 July, 19:01Fabio Barone, president of the 'Red Passion' Ferrari Club, launched the challenge. Barone came to the spotlight last year, for covering the Nuerburgring race circuit (Germany) in less than eight minutes, while driving a ''Rossa'' (red) made in Maranello. ''The Transfagarasan - he says - is 90 km long, but we have chosen the most scenic stretch, which will be closed to traffic and we'll try to cover this distance as quickly as possible''.
The project ''Transfagarasan Speed-World Record'', the director of the Tourism of Romania, Ioana Podosu, explained, ''is unique to our country'', combining different elements, such as motor racing, speed and adventure tourism in a single area which is highly valuable in terms of natural heritage.
