(ANSA-AFP) - BERLIN, OCT 11 - About 70 large German economic
groups have signed a direct appeal to the nascent government for
a more outstanding commitment to the climate in terms of
strengthening and developing energy from renewable sources (wind
and solar farms) and an earlier exit from coal than hitherto
planned (2038). Prominent groups such as Allianz, Rossman, Sap,
E.on. EnBW signed the appeal. "By 2030, at least 70% of
electricity consumption must be covered by renewable energy"
whereas currently, it is less than 50%, the appeal reads, but
"we should almost triple the capacity of onshore and offshore
wind and photovoltaics for this to happen."
"The expansion of key technologies and infrastructure to achieve
climate neutrality must not be slowed down by lengthy and
cumbersome planning and approval procedures," the companies say,
urging policymakers to push the "green" accelerator for the
energy transition. (ANSA-AFP).
