(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 27 JAN - Bulgaria has the lowest share of
people aged 16-74 in the European Union that had used the
internet during the previous three months, new data from
Eurostat show.
The share in Bulgaria was 68% in 2019, followed by Romania
(74%), Portugal (75%) and Italy (76%), while the highest share
was registered in Sweden (98%). The EU average currently stands
at 87%, while in 2007 it stood at 57% and in 2013 at 75%,
Eurostat added.
The share of people aged 16-74 using the internet was lower
than the EU average also in Greece (76%), Croatia (79%), Poland
(80%), Hungary (80%), Lithuania (82%), Slovakia (83%), Slovenia
(83%), Latvia (86%) and Czechia (87%).
Internet use has grown rapidly since 2007, jumping for
instance from 31% to 68% in Bulgaria, from 24% to 74% in Romania
and from 33% to 76% in Greece.
The internet was used mainly to send and receive e-mails
(75%), to find information about goods and services (68%), for
instant messaging (67%) and online news (63%), the EU
