(ANSA) - BELGRADE- A large majority of Austrians, 73%, are
opposed to EU enlargement. Only 19% are in favour of the
accession of new countries, beginning with those of the Western
Balkans. These data emerged from a survey conducted by the
Akonsult institute, Serbian media reported. The survey was
carried out a few days ahead of Austrian taking over the EU
presidency, scheduled for July 1.
According to the survey, only 14% of Austrian citizens
support a hypothetical establishment of the 'United States of
Europe' with the participation of Austria, compared to 78% of
those opposed. ''Basically, the Austrians want less EU, not more
EU'', said Akonsult director Kristin Alvinger. (ANSA).
