Romania: GDP drops 10.5% in second quarter

Industry, cultural sector the most hit

(ANSA) - BELGRADO, 09 SET - The gross domestic product in Romania declined by 10.5% in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, the Romanian National Institute of Statistics (INSSE) informed, confirming the flash estimates published on August 14.

The Romanian statistical institute noted that the economy in the EU country registered a decline of 12.3% in the second quarter of the year in a comparison with the first quarter of 2020. Due to the coronavirus crisis, "almost all industries contributed to the GDP decrease in the first semester of 2020," INSEE noted. The most significative negative developments were observed in the industry sector (-14.1% in the first semester of 2020) and the in cultural sector (-29.1%). (ANSA).
