Kosovo: Togo 15th state to withdraw approval of independence

'Serbia aims to bring the recognizing countries below 97'

26 August, 16:44
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUGUST 26 - Togo revoked its recognition Kosovo's independence, thus becoming the 15th country to do so, said Serbia's foreign minister Ivica Dacic. Speaking on the private TV station Pink, Dacic showed the diplomatic statement issued by the Togolese government on June 28th, in which the African country announced its decision. The goal of Belgrade, the foreign minister said, is to bring the number of countries that recognize Kosovo below half of the UN members, that is to say below 97. "We do our job," Dacic said. According to Serbia's foreign minister, Kosovo cannot become a member of the United Nations because of Russia's veto in the security council. But if Moscow were not to veto, Dacic added, Serbia would need to count on the support of the majority of the UN countries. Dacic underlined that Belgrade would continue in its campaign to convince the largest possible number of countries to revise their stance on the recognition of Kosovo, which is considered a hostile activity by the government in Pristina. Jetljir Ziberaj, an advisor to Kosovo's foreign minister Behgjet Pacolli, described Dacic's announcement as a 'propaganda made up of lies' and based on the 'falsification of documents'.
