(ANSA) - BERLIN - ''We are facing a new stage in development and
we must ensure that in the next 10 to 15 years Germany will
still be successful in terms of economy and social justice'',
Angela Merkel said, taking stock of the legislature at the
Bundestag in the last session ahead of the 24 September general
election.
''We are fine, but we should not sit down'', said the
Chancellor, underlining that Germany, thanks to the 2010 agenda,
has become a ''growing engine'' and a country with a high
employment rate, which has achived ''great recognition in
Europe''.
The world does not sleep, it is growing fast and Germany is not
ranked first in every field. ''There is still a lot to do'', she
added, citing the challenge of digitization. The Chancellor said
that during the forthcoming European Council in October, it will
be necessary to find out ''whether negotiations for Turkey's
entry into Europe should be suspended or closed". Merkel has
thus recalled an issue launched by Martin Schulz during the tv
electoral duel, when she partially expressed her opinion on
Turkey's potential EU membership. (ANSA).
