In Estonia the lowest government debt in the EU in 2018
Low levels also in Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia and Czech Republic
20 July, 14:58Eurostat said that the Estonian gov't debt was 8.7% to the gross domestic product, very much below the 81.5% in the EU average.
A very low government debt to GDP ratio was recorded also in Bulgaria (24,1%), Romania (36.7%), in Latvia and in the Czech Republic (35.8%), in Lithuania (36.3%), Slovakia (50.8%) and Poland (51.2%).
A ratio closer to the EU average was instead recorded in Hungary (73.9%), Slovenia (75.1%), Croatia (76.2%) and Austria (77.2%).
The highest ratios of government debt to GDP at the end of the first quarter of 2018 were recorded in Greece (180.4%) and Italy (133.4%), Eurostat added.
Compared to the first quarter of 2017, the largest decreases in government debt were registered in Slovenia (-5.3 pp), Malta (-6.2 pp) and Croatia (-6.4 pp). (ANSA).
