Ukraine: media, in Croatia queues outside Russian banks

Authorities reassure, 'no reason for panic'

25 February, 15:41
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 25 - Queues reportedly formed today in Croatia outside branches of the Russian bank Sberbank, caused by panic among Croatian account holders over possible effects on their deposits from international sanctions against Moscow. The Croatian daily Jutarnji List reported the news in its online edition.

Sberbank is among the Russian banks indicated among the targets of some American sanctions by the US Treasury Department and Vtb. The news of the last few days is said to have created "a chain reaction in Croatia, with many clients of the Russian bank queuing up in front of the branches" to withdraw money, Jutarnji wrote.

The newspaper also quotes the director of the Croatian Government Agency for Deposit Insurance, who reassured the bank's clients by reminding them that the insurance covers deposits up to 100,000 euros and that there is no reason for panic. (ANSA).
