(ANSA) - BOZEN, JUN 13 - Governor and leader of the Tyrolean
People's Party Guenther Platter surprisingly announced his
resignation. Thirty-six years in politics, 14 years as governor,
and two years of the pandemic "are more then enough," explained
the outgoing Landeshauptmann at a crowded press conference in
Innsbruck. The elections, scheduled for next spring, will
probably be brought forward to September 25.
Mr. Platter will remain in office until that date. The top
candidate of the OEVP and, at this point, the likely governor
will be current councilor and party colleague Anton Mattle.
