Autovie Venete: heavy traffic is expected in northeast Italy

Pentecost coincides with June 2 holiday. Advice for travelers

31 May, 12:04
(ANSA) - UDINE, 31 MAG - The long weekend will coincide this year with Italian Republic Day scheduled for Thursday, June 2.

Therefore, to the transits of tourists from across the border, those of sea commuters will be added. As a result, citizens of the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions will reach the seaside resorts of Italy's northeast. For this reason, Autovie Venete, manager of the local highways, recommends "Pentecost vacationers" from Austria and Germany "utmost caution" on the A23 (Udine Sud - Palmanova Node) and A4 (Venice - Trieste) highway network.

According to forecasts, from Wednesday afternoon, June 1, traffic will be hefty on the A4 toward Venice. Flows will also be significant on the morning of Thursday, June 2, when heavy vehicles will not be allowed to drive from 07.00 to 22.00.

Finally, on Friday, June 3, truck drivers from Eastern countries are expected to return home so that traffic will be above average, especially on the Venice-Trieste route.

The most critical day will be Saturday, June 4, when most tourists from Austria and "sea commuters" will flow onto the Autovie Venete highway network.

From the early morning hours, slowdowns will be possible along the Udine Sud - Palmanova Node section and the A4 (Venice - Trieste) in both directions. However, flows will be sizeable throughout the day, particularly on the entire A4, with queues expected at Latisana, San Stino di Livenza, and San Donà seaside toll booths.

The return of vacationers is expected on Sunday, June 5.

Therefore, queues are expected at the entrances to the toll booths on the Venetian and Friulian coasts and along the entire A4 (Venice-Trieste) in both directions. In addition, a traffic stop for heavy vehicles is planned from 7 am to 10 pm on the same day.

Along the A4 highway, there is a construction site for the third lane between the Latisana and Portogruaro toll booths.

Autovie Venete asks for maximum caution and reminds us to follow some basic rules: let's maintain a safe distance; respect speed limits (130 kilometers per hour in the three- and two-lane sections; 80 kilometers per hour for light vehicles and 60 for heavy vehicles where the construction site is; 60 kilometers per hour for all vehicles where detours are planned within the construction site); and prohibit the use of electronic devices and smartphones when driving.

Before taking your trip, you can learn about the traffic situation by using www.infoviaggiando.it, downloading the infoviaggiando app or calling 800996099. While traveling, all drivers are recommended to look at the variable message signs providing information about the current traffic situation.
