(ANSA) - BOLZANO/BOZEN - ''At the Brenner we have reached the
limit of tolerance''. Tyrol's governor Guenther Platter sounds
alarm on the local daily Tiroler Tageszeitung. In the first nine
months of 2017, 11.1 million tonnes crossed the Italian-Austrian
pass, that is up 6.44% (526,000 tir) compared to the same period
of 2016.
Traffic of light vehicles also increased by 4,74% (+417,000
cars). Meanwhile, Bavaria has harshly criticised the ''numerus
clausus'' of 250 tonnes per hour which was enforced yesterday by
Tyrol after a 24-hours-a-day ban on vehicles due to Austria's
national holiday. A 30 km long queue of vehicles has formed in
Germany.
Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Hermann spoke of an
''unacceptable'' and ''contrary to European law'' measure.
''In absence of this ban, traffic would have exceeded the upper
limit of tolerance in Innsbruck, with long queues, reaching
Woergel or even Kufstein'', Platter replied.(ANSA).
