Balkans: Pirc Musar, EU enlargement should be continued
Slovenia's President: we will cooperate with Italy's PM Meloni
16 November, 20:59"I believe that minority rights," she underlined, "are fundamental rights, and I will defend them. I will also visit the Slovenian community in Carinthia (Austria), talk to them, and listen to the difficulties." The organizations of the Slovenian community in Italy, she pointed out, "know how to cooperate even with different ideas. An important event is waiting for us, Nova Gorica-Gorizia 2025: it is a huge project that will affect not only Slovenia and Italy but Italian and Slovenian citizens." Pirc Musar then spoke about relations with Italy. "Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was democratically elected. I am convinced that Italy and Slovenia will continue to cooperate: Italy is Slovenia's biggest economic partner, we have to cooperate, and we will." President of the Italian Republic "Sergio Mattarella, is one of those statesmen I deeply respect. Equally, the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen: they are gentlemen with a capital 'G'; I wish to meet them soon and continue the established dialogue." Speaking finally about migrants, the President called for solidarity among countries. "Perhaps the European Union has never really been able to unite, but I am satisfied that a framework law on migration was accepted last year. Solidarity is a cornerstone on which we can work together". She then reiterated that "solidarity can take us to new horizons, without soloistic actions of individual EU member countries, without selfishness, for a more connected and united community." (ANSA).
