(ANSA) - BRUSSELS 11 JULY - Europol opened today in Tirana
it’s second liaison bureau outside the EU. The first one was
opened in Washington. The General Director of the Albanian
Police, Ardi Veliu, EU Ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca, and
Europol Executive Director, Catherine De Bolle attendend the
opening. Albania is the first country in the Western Balkans to
host a Europol liaison office. Two other Europol’s liaison
offices are planned to be opened in Bosnia and Herzegovina and
Serbia.
Europol signed an operational agreement with Albania in
December 2013. Throughout these years, the Albanian authorities
have been making a conscious effort to tackle serious organised
crime, and exchanging information with the EU has been
increased. The aim of Europol's presence in Tirana is to enhance
even further cooperation against drug trafficking, migrant
smuggling, trafficking in human beings, arms trafficking and
terrorism.(ANSA).
