(ANSA) - Rome, May 27 - Italy's Francesco Molinari has won
the BMW PGA Championship, conquering the fifth title of his
career on the European Tour, equaling the victories of
Costantino Rocca.
A year after finishing runner-up in the event, the Turin-born
golfer triumphed in the United Kingdom in a tournament
considered by many as the fifth major of the sport.
Molinari produced a flawless final round at the Wentworth
Club (par 72) in Virginia Water with 271 (70 67 66 68, -17)
shots, two clear of Rory McIlroy (second 15-under-par)
representing Northern Ireland and three on Sweden's Alex Noren
(the outgoing champion) and Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard (both
third on 14-under-par).
