(ANSA) - Rome, July 18 - Ten years after the last time
involving Michelle Wie, a proette is again challenging the
professionals of the PGA Tour: America's Brittany Lincicome is
in the field of the Barbasol Championship (19-22 July).
While the world's best are clashing at the Open Championship
in Scotland, the third major of the season, the "excluded" will
contest the title in an event that will feature a women again.
Born in St Petersburg, Florida, in 1985, a professional since
2004, Lincicome will try her best at the Keene Trace Golf Club
at Nicholasville in California.
"I still don't believe it," she says, "I've had a lot of
attention since coming here.
"Everyone, including the players and the staff, have come to
wish me good luck.
"I've received an exceptional welcome and I can't wait to get
out to play".
Lincicome will be the sixth woman in history (in 102 years)
to play on the PGA Tour alongside professionals.
The first (and so far the only one to make the cut) to get
onto the top US tour was Babe Zaharias in the Los Angeles Open
in 1945.
The it was the turn of Annika Sorenstam, Suzy Whaley, Shirley
Spork and Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
Lincicome got her invite from the organisers also because she
the women's Barbasol as well as the Pure Silk Bahama Classic.
