Deputy Premier and Interior
Minister Matteo Salvini on Monday said he was ready to meet his
French opposite number Christophe Castaner this week in Rome or
Paris amid a diplomatic crisis between France and Italy.
Salvini last week irked Castaner by saying he would "summon"
him after Paris recalled its ambassador after Deputy Premier
Luigi Di Maio, leader of the ruling 5-Star Movement (M5S), met
Yellow Vest members in Paris.
Salvini, leader of the M5S's junior partner the League party,
later said he did not want to summon Castaner.
On Monday he said "I leave call-ups to Gattuso," referring to
the coach of his favourite team, AC Milan, Gennaro Gattuso.
"I have read that Castaner said that, once the problems of
high diplomacy have been solved, we will meet on pending
dossiers. I repeat I am ready to meet him in Rome or go to Paris
already this week.
"It is fundamental to restore good relations, the sooner the
better".
