A former priest dubbed 'Don Euro' for
his hunger to get parishioners' contributions was sentenced to
seven and a half years in jail Wednesday for extorting his
ex-bishop and trying to impersonate someone else.
Luca Morini, former parish priest at Massa in northern coastal
Tuscany, was acquitted of extorting a nun, of another charge of
impersonation and charges of money laundering and drug pushing.
His defence attorneys asked the Massa court to acquit him of all
charges after the court rule that he was mentally "semi-infirm".
Prosecutors had requested an eight-year term.
