Pope Francis said on his
historic visit to Abu Dhabi Monday "in the eighth centenary of
the meeting between St Francis of Assisi and Sultan al-Malik
al-Kamil, I took the opportunity to come her as a believer
thirsty for peace, as a brother who seeks peace with his
brothers".
He said "wanting peace, promoting peace, being instruments of
peace: we are here for this".
Francis called on faiths to "enter together, as a single
family, an ark that may tread the stormy seas of the world: 'the
ark of fraternity'".
The pope added that that it was a "serious profanation of the
name of God to use it to justify hatred and violence against
one's brothers".
He said there was no violence that could be religiously
justified.
