Pope Francis said
Wednesday that he was going to the Greek island of Lesbos on
Saturday to show support for refugees and local people.
During his weekly general audience, the pope said he was
making the trip to "express my closeness and solidarity both to
the refugees and to the citizens of Lesbos and the whole Greek
people, who have been so generous in receiving (asylum
seekers)".
He also asked the faithful to do the favour of
"accompanying me with prayer, calling on the light and strength
of the Holy Ghost and the maternal intercession of the Virgin
Mary".
