Monsignor Nunzio Galantino,
secretary-general (No. 2) of the Italian Bishops Conference
(CEI), said Friday that he refused to watch an interview with
Salvo Riina, the son of jailed Cosa Nostra 'boss of bosses' Totò
Riina, which aired Wednesday on veteran presenter Bruno Vespa's
Porta a Porta talk show.
"I absolutely refused to watch the show, and if I'm ever
invited on Porta a Porta I'll never go, just so I don't have to
sit on the same chair," Galantino told Catholic broadcaster
TV2000.
"I'll never go inside there. I haven't been called and I
hope they never call me. You can't do these things to give a
show," he said.
The interview with Riina Jr, who has written a book, caused
an outcry and was also strongly denounced by Senate Speaker
Pietro Grasso, a former national anti-mafia prosecutor, who
warned against "trivialising" the Mafia.
