Rather than considering
annulling reservations to attend the Jubilee because of
terrorism, pilgrims should "rediscover the spiritual value of
the Jubilee," Italian conference of Bishops (CEI)
Secretary-General Monsignor Nunzio Galantino said Tuesday.
Speaking to Radio Anch'io, the prelate said the faithful
should trust the work of the Italian secret services and the
Vatican's gendarmerie police force to protect them.
"Apart from absolute unpredictability, it seems to me that
facts support the Italian intelligence and the Vatican
gendarmerie and all the work they are doing in Italy and
abroad".
Asked about reports of cancellations to the Jubilee,
Galantino said "I don't tell people not to come to Rome but to
rediscover the spiritual value of the Jubilee".
As far as concerns "all the fear on the pope's trip to
Africa ... the gendarmerie are working with the United Nations,
they are not four little kids going to dress up as angels".
