Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, the president of Italian bishops conference CEI, on Thursday blasted scaremongering about the arrival of asylum seekers on the country's shores. "Feeding fear is never good counsel," Bagnasco said on the fringes of an event at Milan Expo 2015. "We must face the problems with realism and helpfulness on the part of all," Bagnasco said. Rightwing parties including the anti-immigrant, anti-euro Northern League have mounted stiff opposition to refugee redistribution in northern Italy.
