The French foreign ministry said Monday that it was expecting a response from the Vatican soon on Laurent Stefanini, the person Paris had nominated to be its next ambassador to the Holy See. "We are expecting a response from the Holy See," foreign ministry spokesperson Ronmain Nadal was quoted as saying by daily newspaper Le Parisien. "Laurent Stefanini has all the qualities necessary for this post, to which France attributes all the importance it deserves".
French media had reported that the three-month delay in the Vatican accepting Stefanini's credentials could be linked to speculation he is gay.
But the French government sources said that Stefanini has spoken about his sexual orientation.
