Pope Francis called for
a rethink in the way food is produced, including a reduction in
waste, during an audience with Italian farmers' association
Coldiretti on Saturday. "The basis of the system of producing
and distributing food must be rethought," the pope said. The
Argentine pontiff blasted the injustices of unregulated markets
and "a culture of throwing away and wasting food at home of
unacceptable proportions...that leads to the poverty and
suffering of many families".
