Pope Francis landed at
Ankara's international airport on Friday to kick off a three-day
visit to Turkey.
The Argentine pontiff will spend the rest of Friday in the
Turkish capital.
He will be in Istanbul on Saturday and Sunday.
The pope sent a message to Italian President Giorgio
Napolitano and to the Italian people before taking off for the
trip from Rome's Fuimicino airport.
In it he said the aim of the trip was "to favour meetings
and dialogue between different cultures and reinforce the path
of Christian unity".
