Cardinal Angelo
Bagnasco will remain at his post as chief of Italy's bishops
through the end of his mandate in 2017, the cardinal said Monday
in remarks to the executive body of the Italian Episcopal
Conference (CEI).
Bagnasco was appointed by the pope, and his mandate was
renewed for in 2012 for five years.
The next CEI president will be appointed according to new
norms, meaning that the pope will choose from a set of
candidates to be submitted by bishops.
