The international community must
condemn persecutions of religious minorities in Iraq and other
countries, the head of the Italian Bishops Conference (CEI),
Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, said Friday.
"We cannot remain silent in the face of the project to
cancel Christians from the Holy Land and other places," he said.
Bagnasco said "our consciences must rebel against the cruel
persecution killing Christians and other religious minorities in
Iraq and other parts of the Earth.
He called murderous campaigns like that of the Islamic
State in Iraq and Syria "an unacceptable disgrace".
Turning a blind eye to the atrocities that have driven
thousands of Iraqis from their homes, and other crimes against
minorities elsewhere, would be "unforgivable cowardice," said
Bagnasco.
