Pope Francis received
former Pakistani minister Paul Bhatti, a Christian, and his
mother, during Wednesday's general audience.
"Persecuted Christians feel the Pope's support," Bhatti
told Vatican Radio.
Bhatti, a doctor, was working in Italy three years ago when
his brother Shahbaz, who was serving at the time as Pakistan's
first-ever minister for minority affairs, was killed by Islamist
extremists for his defense of Christian Pakistanis.
Following his brother's killing, Bhatti was nominated
Pakistan's minister of national harmony and minorities affairs.
