A Juventus fan from Belgium was badly injured in clashes in Seville overnight ahead of the Italian team's Champions League match against Sevilla on Tuesday, investigative sources in Turin said.
The Juve fan, a 25-year-old Belgian of Italian origin, has been operated on for wounds to the abdomen and a leg, probably inflicted by a bottle, and he was said to be in serious but stable condition with a favourable prognosis, medical sources said Tuesday. Two other fans who were hurt in the clashes were released from hospital after medication, sources said.
A group of Spanish ultras "armed with metal bars and bottles and their faces covered up" staged the attack, investigative sources in Turin said after contacting their colleagues in Spain.
They described the attack as "a full-blown ambush".
Local media reported the Juve supporters were having dinner at an eatery when they were attacked in the same area of Seville that saw violence when Dinamo Zagreb visited for a match three weeks ago.
