Alex Schwazer said Tuesday
that he is going to Rio and hopes to take part in the Olympics
despite being suspended after it was announced in June that the
race walker failed a drugs test while he was preparing to return
to competition.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to
rule on the 2008 50km Olympic champ's appeal against his
suspension on August 8.
Schwazer returned to competition in May after serving the
ban he was handed for testing positive before the 2012 London
Olympics.
He argues he is now clean and is the victim of foul play.
"I can't imagine, after all I've done to show everyone
that I could come back to fight and be physically ready for Rio,
that I won't have the chance to take to the track," he said on
his Facebook page.
"I can't imagine, after all the work done in recent months
and all the tests I did, that it was all for nothing".
