Italian Soccer federation (FIGC)
chief Carlo Tavecchio on Tuesday played down reports that FIGC
has already chosen Torino manager Giampiero Ventura to take over
when Antonio Conte leaves the Italy bench for Chelsea at the end
of Euro 2016.
"Ventura the new manager? Haste is a bad counsellor, there
are at least 4-5 names I'm considering, I want to hear from my
councillors and decide with my own head," Tavecchio said.
He declined to say, also, whether he would give Ventura a
50-50 chance of getting the job but repeated that he would come
out with the name of the new boss before the Euros.
"I want the maximum competence and maximum experience from
him," he said.
As for the appointment of 2006 World Cup winner Marcello
Lippi as new technical director, Tavecchio said "we have mapped
out a new technical area, there's no surprise there".
