Just one in 10 children
survived cancer in the 1970s, compared to 86% today, an
association of parents of children with cancer (AGEOP, in its
Italian acronym) said Wednesday.
Italy sees 1,600 new cancer diagnoses on underage people
every year, according to Doctor Andrea Pession, a pediatrician
at Policlinico Sant'Orsola Hospital.
AGEOP has launched a fundraising campaign - to coincide
with the 16th annual International Childhood Cancer Day on
February 15 - to raise 20,000 euros to fund a years' stay for
two families in one of the association's homes.
