Italian researchers have
created an artificial brain that has learned to talk by
'dialoguing' with humans, Plos One journal reported Wednesday.
Annabell (Artificial Neural Network with Adaptive Behavior
Exploited for Language Learning) is the brainchild of two teams
of scientists at Sassari University and Plymouth University.
Annabell is made up of two million artificial
interconnecting neurons and allows scientists to study the
processes in the brain leading to the acquisition of language.
However, the researchers say this is only the first step as
Annabell can be made to 'grow' by increasing the number of
neurons.
In future, this kind of artificial brain could become part
of a sophisticated robot able to see and feel, localise objects
and control its movements.
