The first satellite imaging map of
damage caused by a devastating April 25 earthquake in Nepal has
been made available to rescue workers, the the Italian Space
Agency's (ASI) said Monday.
The data was beamed to earth by ASI's Cosmo Skymed
satellites, which were activated soon after the 7.8 magnitude
quake began on request from international organizations, ASI
said.
The map shows most of the structural damage occurred iun
the capital of Kathmandu, followed by Budhanilkantha to the
north and the nearby areas of Bidur and Sipalkavre.
The images were generated in a joint operation by ASI and
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and were analyzed by experts
at NASA and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
