There are to be no changes to
policing in Italian universities after recent student protests
linked to Israel's war against Hamas sparked by the October 7
attacks and the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian
population in Gaza, sources at the interior ministry said on
Tuesday evening.
"No changes of any kind are planned to the management of public
order at events and demonstrations inside universities, nor have
any assessments been made in this regard," the sources said.
The announcement came after University Minister Anna Maria
Bernini reportedly reached out to Police Chief Vittorio Pisani
to discuss how best to manage the mounting protests in the
country's higher education institutions following the occupation
by students of the dean's office at Rome's La Sapienza
university and the use of insults against the dean of Genoa
university on Tuesday.
