The government is "effective"
against poverty, sources at the premier's office at Palazzo
Chigi said Tuesday after national stats agency Istat reported
Monday that the number of people living in absolute poverty in
Italy had risen to 5.7 million last year including 1.3 million
minors.
"Let's clarify on the last two Istat notes on the subject of
poverty", they said.
"The Meloni government's policies are confirmed as effective in
the fight against poverty according to the various Istat
indicators.
"This particularly concerns the risk of poverty, which has
decreased as has the intensity of poverty.
"The incidence of absolute poverty also shows how it has gonre
from a 0.6% increase in 2022 compared to 2021 to an increase of
0.2 % in 2023 compared to the previous year, entirely due to
inflationary dynamics".
