Giulio Regeni, the Italian Cambridge
University student abducted and tortured to death in Cairo in
2016, appears in a new mural outside the Egyptian embassy in
Rome once more hugging Patrick Zaki, the Egyptian Bologna
University freed this week after 22 months in jail on subversion
charges.
The mural is the second one by street artists Laika after one
put up last year where Regeni said to Zaki "everything will be
OK this time".
In the new piece, a light is shown at the end of a tunnel in the
background and Regeni hugs Zaki saying "We're almost there",
referring to the fact that charges against the Egyptian student
have not been dropped despite his release.
Zaki replies: "Hug me again".
Underneath, Laika put the single word, in Arabic, "innocent".
