Lombardy Governor Attilio Fontana
arrived at a Milan prosecutor's office Monday to be questioned
in an abuse of office probe over the appointment to the regional
government of a former partner at his law studio, lawyer Luca
Marsico.
Fontana last week received an invitation to appear before
magistrates.
On Monday he decided to present himself to prosecutors.
Fontana is under investigation for abuse of office as part of
a large kickbacks probe by Milan anti-mafia prosecutors in which
43 arrest warrants were issued in Lombardy and Piedmont on
Tuesday.
The accusation against Fontana regards the nomination of his
"law firm partner" Marsico to a job with the Lombardy regional
government.
"I will respond promptly and fully to prosecutors'
questions," Fontana said.
