A proposed 'ecotax' on the
purchase of new cars on the basis of the emissions they generate
will only apply to some SUVs and luxury cars, Deputy Premier and
Labour and Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Monday.
The 'ecotax' proposal had reportedly caused tension between
Di Maio's 5-Star Movement and their coalition partners in the
League.
"We have confirmed that there will be an 'eco-discount' of up
to 6,000 euros for electric cars and other non-polluting
vehicles, without taxing cars already in circulation or the
purchase of new SUVs," Di Maio said.
"Only those who decide to buy a diesel or petrol SUV or a
luxury super car will pay more".
