ISTAT said Wednesday that the
government's planned 'citizenship wage' basic income for
jobseekers should boost Italy's GDP by up to 0.3 of a percentage
point a year. It said this was based on the assumption that the
government allocates public money of around 0.5 of a point of
GDP. The statistics agency said that it saw GDP rising by 0.2 of
a point with respect to the base scenario in the first few years
of the benefit, adding that this could climb to 0.3 thanks to
its positive effect on household spending.
