The League on Tuesday filed an
appeal with Italy's supreme Cassation court against a ruling
issued earlier this month by a Genoa court giving the all clear
from prosecutors to seize funds of the rightwing populist party
in relation to a fraud case.
The League's attorneys, Giovanni Ponti and Roberto Zingari,
announced they had filed the appeal against the court's decision
on September 6 allowing the seizure of up to 49 million euros
from the party.
The seizure relates to convictions handed down to former
League leader Umberto Bossi, former treasurer Francesco Belsito
and three ex auditors who were found guilty of fraud against the
State estimated at 49 million, between 2008 and 2010, for
illicit electoral spending reimbursements.
