European Parliament President
Antonio Tajani on Monday denied reports that Forza Italia (FI)
leader Silvio Berlusconi agreed to drop opposition to the
government's nominee to be the new president of RAI, Marcello
Foa, during talks with Interior Minister, Deputy Premier and
League leader Matteo Salvini on Sunday.
"RAI was not discussed," Tajani, who is also FI vice
president and was present at the meeting, told RTL 102.5.
"There was no agreement in names.
"We are interest in the method. If the centre right still
exists, a different method is needed".
The League and FI were allied for March's general election
but Salvini's party ended up forming a government with the
5-Star Movement (M5S) to end a long post-election deadlock after
the anti-establishment group refused to open talks with the
centre-right coalition as a whole.
But FI and the League govern several regions together and
their alliance has not been broken off.
