The Group of Seven (G7) governments agreed that "no country has yet achieved de facto gender equality" in the final document for the G7 equal opportunities meeting, which ended Thursday. In the document, the G7 governments committed to "apply and monitor" interventions for gender equality. In the Sicilian town of Taormina, where the main G7 summit was also held earlier this year, the nations agreed that "gaps that must be narrowed" still exist.
The document also referred to the need to take action to promote employment for women and said combatting violence against woman was of strategic importance for development.
