Italy's gross domestic product
rose by 0.4% in the second quarter of 2017 with respect to the
previous three months, according to seasonally and
calendar-adjusted data released by ISTAT on Friday.
The national statistics agency added that GDP was up 1.5%
with respect to the same period in 2016, as it confirmed the
figures given in preliminary estimates last month.
The data means that the Italian economy has registered
positive growth for 10 consecutive quarters, a run that started
in the first three months of 2015.
Premier Paolo Gentiloni welcomed the data, which followed
positive employment figures on Thursday.
"Good economic signals have arrived today too," Gentiloni
said during a visit to the Rome headquarters of Catholic charity
Caritas.
"I hope that they allow us to stay on the road of
guaranteeing more money for the fight against poverty and social
exclusion".
