Naples is set to sue anyone it
finds guilty of defaming the southern Italian city.
The city council has set up an online site called Defend the
City where Neapolitans can report anyone they think is unduly
badmouthing their home town.
"For some time, and ever more often, we have seen a distorted
and sometimes defamatory narration of the city of Naples, making
it the target of prejudice, stereotypes and harmful
generalisations," the site says.
Mayor Luigi de Magistris said "it isn't that we can't take
criticism which we need, or that we want to spout propaganda, we
only want to defend the city when anyone, whoever it is, makes a
reconstruction that is not true".
