A Rome court on Monday ruled that
Raffaele Marra, the city's former personnel chief, must remain
in jail.
Marra was arrested on December 16 over allegations of
involvement in corruption with real-estate businessman Sergio
Scarpellini.
Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi has denied that Marra was her
right-hand man.
The case has caused embarrassment for Raggi and her
anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S), which prides itself on
not being tainted with the corruption scandals that have hit
other parties.
