Northern League leader Matteo
Salvini on Thursday accused President Sergio Mattarella of going
beyond the powers given to him by the Constitutional, saying the
head of State was following the lead of his predecessor Giorgio
Napolitano. "Mattarella is in perfect continuity with
Napolitano," Salvini told the radio station of Niccolò Cusano
University. "There are presidents who nominate, fire and hire
beyond the powers envisioned in the Constitution. Anyway, I hope
that we vote (in national elections) in the spring and these
governments become a distant memory".
